The home pressure gauge summarizes price momentum, range location, and a volume proxy; it does not observe trade aggressors.
Define pressure before interpreting it
In market discussion, “pressure” can mean several different things: upward or downward price momentum, resting depth on an order book, or executed buyer- and seller-initiated trades. Those are related only indirectly. A price can rise while visible asks are large, and heavy market buying can occur without a lasting price increase if new sell liquidity absorbs it.
The home-page gauge is the first kind: a heuristic market summary. It does not classify individual trades, inspect DeepBook orders, read leveraged positions, or consume social and news sentiment. A high value is therefore best read as stronger positive conditions under the scanner’s rules, not as a percentage of buyers.
How the implemented score is formed
For each asset, the scanner starts a rule score at zero. It adds or subtracts points using 1-hour, 24-hour, and 7-day percentage changes, current location inside the 24-hour high-low range, and whether total volume is large relative to market capitalization while short-term price is moving. The displayed asset pressure is clamp(50 + score × 8), constrained from 0 to 100.
The page’s overall pressure is the arithmetic average of available asset pressure scores. Each included asset therefore contributes one score regardless of market capitalization. The volume-intensity input is total reported volume divided by market cap. It is a turnover proxy, not total value locked, cash available to trade, or guaranteed executable depth.
- Fifty corresponds to a rule score of zero.
- Each score point shifts the unclamped gauge by eight points.
- Clamping prevents display values below zero or above one hundred.
Keep other kinds of pressure separate
On /dashboard, DeepBook bid and ask notional comes from resting order-book price × quantity. It can describe visible depth at the sampled moment, but not long and short positions, and orders may be changed or canceled. Executed aggressor flow instead requires trade records and a rule identifying whether a buyer or seller crossed the spread.
The /charts Ichimoku and Keltner calculations answer trend and volatility questions. The /signals UI and server alerts can use logic different from the home scanner. Similar words or colors do not establish a shared formula, so undocumented exact alert thresholds should not be inferred.
Read the gauge as context
Check the component changes and timeframe before using the aggregate. A broad positive average may hide dispersion between assets, while an extreme asset value may reflect several correlated price rules responding to the same move. Data can also be stale, incomplete, or provider-dependent.
Use pressure to organize investigation, not to replace execution planning. Define the price or market condition that invalidates a thesis and account for spread, slippage, fees, and position size. No heuristic value guarantees continuation or reversal.
Worked heuristic pressure calculation
Assume fictional inputs trigger +3 points for aligned momentum, +2 for a high range position, and +1 for the volume-and-price rule.
- Momentum contribution
- +3 points
- Range contribution
- +2 points
- Volume-price contribution
- +1 point
- Displayed pressure
- clamp(50 + 6 × 8) = 98
The value 98 means the illustrative rules totaled +6. It does not mean 98% buy volume, a 98% chance of a rise, or a 98-to-2 order-book ratio.
Common interpretation traps
- Describing heuristic pressure as executed buyer-versus-seller volume.
- Treating total-volume-to-market-cap as liquidity, TVL, or market depth.
- Assuming the overall equal-weighted average represents a market-cap-weighted crypto index.
Frequently asked questions
What does a pressure value of 50 mean?+
It means the asset’s rule score is zero before clamping. It does not mean buy and sell activity is exactly balanced.
Can the gauge show 100?+
Yes. The formula caps all values above 100, so different sufficiently positive raw scores can share the same displayed maximum.
Does market pressure use DeepBook trades or sentiment?+
No. The inspected home calculation uses market price, range, volume, and market-cap fields. It has no social/news feed and is separate from DeepBook.
